Inktober
Let’s look at Jake Parker’s challenge, Inktober that helped make art challenges popular. His challenge was to draw a picture with ink every day of October 2009. One of his goals was to enforce good drawing habits. Another was to improve inking skills.
A Staff Reporter, Donna Li, surveyed participants of The Bronx High School of Science. The results show that only 83.3 percent said they improved their art skills. When these same participants were asked what they thought the purpose of an art challenge, the result was a combination of
- Enjoyment
- Improvement
- Engagement with the art community
The appeal of an art challenge

- causes people to share their work on public platforms– they can discuss it with others doing the same challenge
- encourages artsits to do something everyday – practice could reslut in improvement
- is for Self improvement
- can be a form of entertainment
