Crazy Cat

This Crazy Cat art project will help us practice drawing different types of line. We will cut out several shapes and glue (collage) them on our line paper to make a crazy cat face.

Fun Cat Facts for Kids

Cats conserve energy by sleeping for an average of 13 to14 hours a day.
They have flexible bodies and teeth adapted for hunting small animals such as mice and rats.
A group of cats is called a clowder, a male cat is called a tom, a female cat is called a molly or queen while young cats are called kittens.
Cats can be lethal hunters and very sneaky, when they walk their back paws step almost exactly in the same place as the front paws did beforehand, this keeps noise to a minimum and limits visible tracks.
Cats have powerful night vision, allowing them to see at light levels six times lower than what a human needs in order to see.
Cats also have excellent hearing and a powerful sense of smell.
Domestic cats love to play, this is especially true with kittens who love to chase toys and play fight. Play fighting among kittens may be a way for them to practice and learn skills for hunting and fighting.
On average cats live for around 12 to 15 years.
Cats spend a large amount of time licking their coats to keep them clean.

Supplies Needed

Paper – you can use any color paper you want. This list is what I used in the project
12 x 18 Yellow construction paper
6 x 9 White construction paper
6 x 9 Blue construction paper
4 x 4 Green construction paper
2 x 6 Orange construction paper
1.5 x 18 Black construction paper
Oil pastels or crayons
Glue
Scissors
Pencil

Things you will need

As a teacher, I have found that gathering your supplies and resources before starting your art project makes creating art so much more fun.

The following are some ideas for this project I hope you will find helpful.

Idea one: Gather the supplies listed on the supply list.

Idea two: The paper sizes can be different these sizes allow for minimal scraps to throw away. I teach this in my classes and try to conserve as much material as possible.

Idea three: After you glue the shapes down except for the wiskers, I would allow the glue to dry before drawing on the shapes.
