A little about the author, Luke:
Tradition says and Bible scholars believe that Luke wrote the book of Luke and Acts. Luke was an early disciple of Jesus and wrote the book based on research and eyewitness accounts. (Luke 1:2) Luke concentrates on the humanity of Jesus, in contrast to the book of John which emphasizes the deity of Jesus. Luke does not spend much time quoting the Old Testament. He explains many Jewish traditions but stresses that the Gospel is for all people, including Gentiles. He was a physician (Col 4:14), an educated man and may have been a traveling companion of the Apostle Paul at some points. It is also thought that Luke may have been a Gentile from Antioch. I find this interesting because Paul was the Apostle called to preach to the Gentiles. If Luke was a Gentile and wrote the book of Luke, he is the only Gentile author in the New Testament. Pretty cool, right?
