Paradox Tangle
Paradox Tangle
The Paradox tangle is one of my favorites. Zentangle® headquarters is credited for this tangle. I really like how straight lines can give the illusion of curving; that is the appeal for me with this tangle. It is very geometrical so if you are more into organic tangles, this one might be a challenge. I am also intrigued with creating two different meta patterns just paying attention to the order of tangling this pattern.
Teaching
I teach this Paradox tangle to my students in school. Some have a difficult time learning it but when they get it you can see their excitement. For the next month or so, I randomly get little pieces of art from them. They want me to hang it up for all to see and of course I oblige!
Shading
I even like this tangle flat with no shading but when you do shade…WOW! Shading really gives it dimension and helps to make it pop off the page. There is no right or wrong way to shade it, but I look for the places I want to stand out and shade around that area to give it the illusion of a cast shadow. This pulls part of the area up and pushed the other areas to the background.
Other Paradox Ideas
Sometimes I play with this tangle using alcohol markers for a colored background, then I tangle Paradox over it with a white Gelly Roll Pen. The alcohol marker bleeds up into the white Gelly Roll Pen slightly and makes it look like the Paradox “form” is translucent. It is a pretty cool effect for a space themed ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art). Another interesting idea for my “got to have sparkle” friends, is to tangle Paradox on a black tile using colored Sparkle Pop Pens.
I hope you enjoy this tangle. Create art and find the magic!
